New Delhi, March 24, 2021: With small and big organizations in every industrial sector laying great emphasis upon diveristy in business, the hospitality sector in Dubai is no different. Boasting of one of the most diverse populations in the world, the Emirates and UAE in general is home to several inclusive workplaces with diverse workforce.

We asked prominent restauranteur Sanjeev Nanda about what makes workforce diversity so important in the restaurant business. According to Nanda, inclusiveness helps bridge gaps between people coming from different cultures, which in turn translates into better productivity.

“In restaurant business, diversity in terms of cuisines and menus has always been an integral component. And this cannot be achieved without a kitchen workforce that understands and appreciates the uniqueness of every ingredient. Having come from different cultures, restaurant employees form a strong talent pool by bringing in a variety of perspective and a great range of skill sets,” says Sanjeev Nanda.

Nanda, who is successfully running several diners in Dubai, believes that inclusion and diversity have lately emerged as a benchmark for running a successful hospitality business. In his opinion, while their impact is difficult to be assessed using quantitative results, capturing improvements in customer and employee experiences can help project a clearer picture.

Sanjeev Nanda also opines that while the pandemic posed a great challenge for the hospitality sector, it also created an opportunity for successfully engaging people from diverse backgrounds together. “The emergence of the pandemic drove stakeholders in every sector to join forces irrespective of their backgrounds,” he said.

“Since the hospitality sector heavily relies upon human resources, the impact of embracing inclusiveness and diversity has been felt more prominently than in other sectors. In a post-pandemic world, the diversity and inclusion aspect is a milestone that every business needs to achieve in order to promote sustainability. After all, sharing is caring,” Nanda added.
