Bhimtal is situated at an altitude of 1371.6 meters and is considered sacred by many people all over India. It got its name from the famous Mahabharata character Bhima who stayed here and is said that he also built a temple for the Lord Shiva which is popularly known as Bhimeshwara Mahadev Temple. Nag temple is another famous place of worship. Other temples of Bhimtal have their historical and religious significance. Traces of Roads connecting to the ancient silk route can still be seen, owing to this Bhimtal attracts tourists from all over the world.
Bhimtal is much cleaner and bigger than the popular Naini Lake situated in the Nainital district.
