The upcoming Bihari Food Festival at the Courtyard By Marriott Ahmedabad will feature specially curated authentic vegetarian and non-vegetarian dishes from the Eastern state. Guests can look forward to a wide and popular range of lip-smacking starters, main course delicacies and desserts from Bihar at the Food Festival, which will take place at the MoMo Café between 7:30 pm to 11:30 pm from August 23 to 31.
The cuisine of Bihar is largely similar to North Indian cuisine but has influences from other East Indian cuisines. The simple ingredients of Bihari cuisine with a mild dash of spices makes it very appetizing. Litti Chokha may be the best known Bihari dish, but the state is also famous for Kebabs, Sattu Paratha, thekua, Chokha, Fish Curry, and several other dishes. It is highly seasonal; watery foods such as watermelon and sharbat made from the pulp of the wood-apple fruit is consumed mainly in the summer months, while dry foods such as preparations made of sesame seeds and poppy seeds are consumed more frequently in the winter months.
There are numerous Bihari meat dishes, with chicken and mutton being the most common. Fish dishes are especially common in the Mithila region of North Bihar due to the number of rivers, such as the Sone, Gandak, Ganges and Koshi. Dairy products are consumed frequently throughout the year, including dahi (yogurt), spiced buttermilk (known as mattha), ghee, lassi and butter.
