New Delhi, September 13, 2021: Embarking upon a bread-ful journey since 2013, The Baker’s Dozen founders are back with yet another innovation. This September, TBD, India’s fastest growing artisan bakery brand will introduce an industry-first virtual Sourdough Summit – powered by their Culinary Partner – Academy of Pastry and Culinary Arts (APCA), Industry Partner – Western India Culinary Education (WICA), and Knowledge Partner – India’s leading Start-up incubation centre NSRCEL of IIM Bangalore.

2021 will mark a landmark in the bread industry as the TBD team presents a digital-first format on the business of bread, to leverage into an annual Sourdough September celebration. The objective of this summit will be to spread awareness, whilst honoring the authenticity and versatility of sourdough bread. This will involve intensive workshops, Q&A sessions, panel discussions, masterclasses and other exciting activities. The aim is to initiate a much needed dialogue amongst industry experts, entrepreneurs, home bakers, students interested in the food space, and especially in the art of baking sourdough bread.

Handa mentions, “To celebrate the reverence of this much-loved wonder that sourdough is, we are delighted to present India’s first Sourdough Summit. Through this marquee event, we intend to educate people about this age-old technique, starting from its history to how it’s actually used to bake delightful loaves to intricate details like bread scoring. Through dedicated workshops, we want to equip Indian bakers and baking enthusiasts with all the skills and knowledge needed to bake authentic sourdough. Apart from these, we will also be joined by various food influencers, nutritionists, artists, critics and chefs to deliver masterclasses on varied topics from starting a food business to technical aspects such as Bread Art.”

Coinciding with the launch of their flagship store, ‘The House of Sourdough’ at Koramangala, Bengaluru, the summit also aims to shine a spotlight on the city’s entrepreneurs and communities, by raising a toast to the ever-growing love for breads, confectioneries and D2C companies in the food and beverage segment.

With this first all-digital sourdough summit, Handa-Jain endeavored to exemplify the concept of gourmet bread in India by building and encouraging a community of bread lovers and artisan bakers to proudly and fearlessly start their own bold narrative in this nascent yet promising space.

To further the purpose to demystify the conversation around Parisian breads in India so as to ensure a sourdough in every Indian home, Handa adds, “The captivating taste and aroma of sourdough is a rich experience in itself and those who’ve experienced it find it difficult to put it in words. So, we invite you to fall for sourdough yourself and be a part of the celebration!”
