New Delhi, October 12, 2016: World Skills Competition is the largest vocational skills competition globally and is organized by the Amsterdam based not-for-profit organization World Skills International. In 2007, India joined the World Skills International Organization as its 48th member.
Competitors from different countries pitch their skills against the best of the best for gold, silver and bronze medals. The World Skills Competition is popularly known as the Skill Olympics.
World Skills 2017 is to be held in Abu Dhabi from 14 – 19 October 2017. Tourism and Hospitality Skill Council (THSC) will be conducting selections nationwide for the selection of national teams in the following skills:
1 Patisserie and Confectionery
2 Cooking
3 Restaurant Service
To gear up for India Skills competition 2016, Chef Harpal Singh Sokhi was appointed as the Brand Ambassador for India Skills 2016.

THSC Team conducted regional competitions at 7 different cities. Out of 750 registered with us,356 candidates cleared the online pre-screening test conducted by THSC appointed assessment agency, to participate in the regional competition this year.
45 esteemed jury members were invited i.e. 3 for each trade, each city.

India Skill competition 2016 that was held at Pragati Maidan on 15th to 17th July 2016. The winners of each skill won a cash award of INR one lac, first runner up INR seventy five thousand and second runner up INR twenty five thousand. This was the first time ever that the competition of this scale has been held in the country. The competition saw more than 50,000 visitors at the India Skills Competition 2016
“This is our first edition of such a big scale. I am certain, Team India will yet again prove its mettle on the global skills map at Abu Dhabi. We have set the base for skill development and I urge all to come forward and benefit from the initiatives that we have launched,” Mr. Rajiv Pratap Rudy, Minister of State for Skill Development and Entrepreneurship (MSDE) said in a statement.
The next round of competitions will be held in New Delhi in third week of October 2016, followed by another round in November 2016. The focus of these competitions is to spot the right talent, who will be trained, mentored over a period of one year by team of skill management team.
THSC is also looking for support from all the facets of the industry for sponsorships and media tieups.
