The Hotel has received a Gold Level Certification from Earth Check, the leading benchmarking, certification and environmental management program used by the travel and tourism industry.
Celebrating World Environment Day 2017, the Hotel undertookvarious initiatives to increase awareness about environmental sustainability and encourage patrons, associates, guests and the larger community to achieve best practices in environmental and social sustainability. As part of its annual practice, a special plantation drive was conducted on the terrace gardenwhich saw the participation of guests and associates alike.
The Human Resources team at the Hotel, organized the ‘Best of Waste Activity’, which saw the coming together of various departments to create models and articles from waste generated at the Hotel. The activity led to artistic creations such as a movie play box, a projector, vacuum cleaner amongst many others by enthusiastic teams.
The hotel undertakes various environment friendly initiatives such as providing shared transport to its staff, converting discarded linen into laundry bags, dusters, trolley covers and even menu covers and employing energy efficient practices in all areas of operation. LED lights and light dimmers are used in guest floor corridors and in the lobby; water level sensors have been installed in the hotel to avoid wastage of water due to overflowing; a rain water harvesting program has been initiated by the Hotel and solar panels are used for pre-heating of water. All leather ‘TAJ’ carry bags have been replaced by jute bags in an effort to be more environmentally friendly. Also, regular energy audits are conducted by the Hotel to understand their performance on various environmental parameters.
The month of June continues to be celebrated as “TATA sustainability Month” by The Taj Mahal Hotel, New Delhi.
