Bringing together Experiences and Brands with Common Objectives to Drive the Importance of Sustainability
Kick Starts Its First Collaborative During the Festive Season with Flowerbox across all Tamara Properties
Bengaluru, January 8, 2022:The pandemic has shown us more than ever the power of collaboration to bring about positive changes in the society. There is a large-scale need for companies/brands to not only recognize how reliant we are on each other for collective wellbeing but alsoaddress societal challenges by joining hands together.Tamara Leisure Experiences, since its inception, has been deeply committed to createexperiences withsustainability at its core. Keeping in line with its philosophy of responsible hospitality and memorable experiences, Tamara Leisure Experiences has now announced the launch of The Tamara Collaborative, an initiative to bring together brands that share the group’s vision and sensibilities.
The first of The Tamara Collaborative kickstarted as a part of the bustle and jubilance of the festive season- with Meghaa Modi. She is an award-winning event stylist, a wedding & concept designer and a floral and multimedia artist who believes in using eco-friendly materials in her designs that are close to nature and believe in the concept of love, energy and floral chi.
As part of the Collaborative effort, all Tamara properties including The Tamara Kodai, The Tamara Coorg and O by Tamara, were decorated for the festive season using eco-friendly materials that are hand-made, reusable and are close to nature. At O by Tamara, local flora, natural reusable wooden frames, orchids and pinewoodwere used to decorate the property and welcome the guests. At The Tamara Kodai, locally sourced cinnamon sticks, dried oranges, succulents, and even a 10 feet tall tree using jute was used as part of the décorto usher in the New Year! The decorations at The Tamara Coorg included wool and of course, coffee beans, apart from locally sourced and hand-made materials.
Says Shruti Shibulal, CEO, Tamara Leisure Experiences, “The idea of The Tamara Collaborative stemmed from our commitment towards sustainability and how innovative ideas can emerge from collaborations between brands with similar values. These kinds of collaborations can also yield greater awareness and inspiration alike thereby helping the larger objective. One of our key focuses is to inspire design and décor ideas with elements from nature.”
She further added, “We will be looking at meaningful collaborations going forward and will bring together brands that share our sustainability vision and sensibilities to offer fresh and inspiring perspectives.”
Tamara is deeply committed to responsible tourism, respecting and supporting local culture and practices and intruding on the surrounding natural environment as little as possible. To this end, all Tamara properties are constructed with care and respect for the environment.
The establishment of The Tamara Coorg involved minimal invasion of the natural environment. The suites and restaurants are constructed on stilts, that eliminated the need to excavate the face of the hills. Felling of trees was kept to an absolute minimum, and the resort was not overly fenced, allowing the natural flow of flora and fauna in the region to be disrupted to the smallest extent possible.
The establishment of The Tamara Kodai, a heritage property, involved restoration of an old colonial building, and its expansion to build suites and rooms in the same style. Materials, to a large extent, were sourced locally, including the treatment and refurbishing of wood from old railways tracks to lay the floors of the restaurant decks. In addition, suitable materials were used to extend the old stone and brick walls, in order to maintain the historical look and feel of the original structure.
O by Tamara, a business hotel in the lively city of Trivandrum, recently secured a ‘Four Star’ rating under Green Rating for Integrated Habitat Assessment (GRIHA). The four-star certification was awarded to O by Tamara for its various sustainable approaches going right down to basics with site selection for the construction. Others include preservation and protection of landscape, water preservation, renewable energy utilization, minimizing the use of ozone depletion substances and efficient segregation and disposal of waste to name a few.
At all our properties, we try to source everyday products locally and organically as much as possible, with a focus on highest quality and sustainability of materials and products.
