New Delhi, June 17, 2020: The Status Hospitality Group, Kanpur’s leading group of hotels and restaurants that includes a selection of three hotels, two resort properties, and a selection of ten restaurants is taking a proactive technology first approach to hospitality in the post-covid era.
The turnaround has been planned by siblings Insha and Yash Malhotra, who are both graduates of Cornell University’s School of Hotel Administration, and joined their family business after working in the United States. All venues under the group’s umbrella welcome guests with a Status Wellness Walkway, a tunnel with a contemporary design that is equipped with a motionless sanitizer, thermal cameras, shoe vacuum fogger, and music to go with the venue’s restaurants.
Dhuaan – the group’s flagship restaurant that has previously been awarded India’s Best Small Town Restaurant by ET NOW now has a UV Sterilization Chamber for the storage of crockery and cutlery, Contactless dining through their in-house QR Code ordering system, customized face mask cases for guests, and german electrostatic guns for space sanitization before and after every guest dines. The restaurant uses tropical plants to make social distancing not look awkward but fit into the ambiance, and has converted several of its sister restaurants on the same campus into Private Dining Rooms to be booked by the regulars.
Inspired by the 60s drive-in movie theatres, they are also introducing Dine & Drive by Dhuaan. A movie going style physical distancing and dining experience with fresh food from the kitchen delivered in the resort golf car.
“Our property where Dhuaan and its sister restaurants are located also has a selection of lawns that were used for weddings and large social gatherings. Given that until the foreseeable future, we will not be hosting events to the tune of a couple of thousand guests, I thought why not align that space with Dhuaan – guests who have been home for months now have this urge to step out but with limitations. We are hoping that guests will be comfortable to experiment with our idea of providing each vehicle with 500 sf private dining space in a manicured lawn” says Insha.
“As we were thinking through the highest and best uses for our collection of venues, our primary criteria was to provide space and familiarity to our guests. Will I be headed to the bars the moment the government eases its restrictions? Probably not.. Will I be comfortable going to a Dine & Drive with my family where I have my private garden with space to park my car and a picnic bench being sanitised in front of my eyes, with my favourite wood fired meal being delivered in a sealed picnic basket by a golf car, I think that idea will put more of our customers at ease!”, says Yash Malhotra.
