Bengaluru, July11, 2018: On International Plastic Bag Free Day, Shangri-La Hotel decided to commemorate ‘Plastic Bag Free’ movement by organizing fun recycle bazaar at the hotel. Guests and staff members were encouraged to take a step towards replacing the environmentally damaging single-use plastic bags with more sustainable and reusable alternatives.
Dedicated to the environmental movement a ‘Recycle tree’ took centre stage at the hotel’s lobby where guests and staffs donated their reusable possessions. With every donation, a leaf emerged on the tree. There was a great buzz of enthusiasm amongst guests and staff as the hotel also extended the initiative to exchange non-recyclable products for a cotton bag. This collective effort was marked to spread the message of adopting environment friendly practices in our daily lives, amongst colleagues and the local community.
In addition, hotel’s CSR team conducted plastic bag free campaign in Angel’s Orphanage and Cheshire Homes to raise awareness and educate students, care takers and faculties about the impact of plastic bags on our environment and existing alternatives.
On the occasion, Andreas Streiber, General Manager of Shangri-La Hotel, Bengaluru said “Plastic bag pollution is a global problem and it is extremely encouraging to see communities everywhere take responsibility for the tide of such pollution that is affecting our ecosystem. We are thankful to our guests and team who have generously come forward and supported the cause by participating in sustainable environmental practices.”
