Chittorgarh, November 11, 2016: Owing its name to the Bundi School of Art, Chitrashaala is an initiative by Jüsta Hotels that pays homage to the creative spirit of artists. The third edition of this prestigious art event was held from 13th to 20th October and hosted at Jüsta’s Lake Nahargarh Palace, Chittorgarh and was attended by over 36 artists from India and across the globe.

The idea of the Chitrashaala is to encourage artists from across the spheres to come together to not only showcase their creation but to seek inspiration from one another. From being internationally renowned to those taking small steps into the light limelight and even those who have no academic background in Fine Art are given a platform.

An endearing sight to see where an artist as young 18 year of age seek inspiration from her international contemporaries and even Octogenarian artist – Dhiraj Choudhary encouraging artisans from the village to create needle work for his line ‘brush and needles’. The proceeds of which are given to the artisans.

This year too, the event saw a myriad of artists, some of which included internationally renowned names such as such as Prof Dr. Ashraf Abder Kader from Egypt, Reiner Langer from Germany, Semira Wahab from Sweden, Peter Marcus from USA, Malak Jamil from Iraq, Olivier Barot from France and Tatsiana Wolski who is considered to be 1 of the top 100 artists of the world.

Putting all troubles behind and surrendering to art were artists from countries such as Iraq, Egypt, Syria, Iran, Lebanon who were seen colourfully and fluently translating their inspiration on a blank canvas.

Chitrashaala 2016 saw performances by Jaisalmer’s Barmer Brothers as well as another night of melodious music by songstress Laxmi Santra.

“Rajasthan, as a state is rich in history, culture and music. Since we have 4 hotels in this beautiful state, we have dedicated 10 days before the festive season each year to Chitrashaala and every year we see it get better and better. Art curator, Bibek Santra has curated the entire event for us and we are proud to say that we have some very well established artists attending the residency” exclaims Ashish Vohra, founder Justa hotels.

Chitrashaala 2016 demonstrated yet again how art has no borders. It underscored the Justa group’s commitment to promoting quality contemporary art by providing the perfect setting for artists from across the world to meet, be inspired and produce works which will delight and excite viewers for years to come.

Chitrashaala has not merely an art residency but also an opportunity for the creative minds to associate and work with the individuals from varied genres of visual art.
