Chennai, December 22, 2021: As end of year festivity grips the city with celebratory mood, InterContinental Chennai Mahabalipuram Resort unveiled its iconic Christmas Tree sculpted from sand and seashells. Conceptualised by the Resorts engineering team, 14 feet tall nautical tree drives home a compelling eco-awareness message revolving around the evident climate change and beach erosion experienced by Eastern Coast of Mahabalipuram.

InterContinental Chennai Mahabalipuram Resort has been driving many eco-conservation projects in the last 3 years in-line with IHG Hotels & Resorts Green Engage program.  This year’s campaign is anchored in Coastal Care to bring forth Resorts commitment to responsible waste management, tree plantation drives and sustainable amenities use. The hotel team also reached out to the local fishermen community of Covelong Village to support their livelihood with seashell and ornament purchases.

The evening panned out with a hearty tete-a-tete, with guests exploring Resort new feature additions such as the newly upgraded ‘Planet Trekker- Family Recreation Room’, Tiki-la sundown grills and cocktail showcase at KoKoMMo Beach Shack and interaction with certified wellness practitioner at the Resort. This was followed by the tree lighting ritual and gourmet sundown showcasing season’s freshest plum cakes and stollen breads, indigenous smorgasbord, coastal small plates curated by the culinary team led by Executive Chef Mihir Kane.

The event was attended by likeminded eco-enthusiast and beach patrons such as actor Surya Ganapathy , Tania Balaji,  Influencer and popular content creator Harini Venugopal, Simran Jain, socialites Ramya Sumana, Prachi, Janani, Radhe and many more.

Speaking on the occasion, Mr.Kunal Shanker, General Manager, InterContinental Chennai “The Resort has been the first in ECR to embrace eco-awareness drive and support local livelihood and I am glad that the engineering team helms this initiative on behalf of the hotel and every year manages to craft the most Iconic Christmas Tree. We have been consistently looking to curate meaningful guest experiences which educates our residents of the coastal environment of Tamil Nadu’s most scenic beach front. This year is special as we have created an exciting line of 14 days revelry starting from 17th December 2021 to 1st January 2022, with the culinary offerings in our restaurants and entertainment in line with InterContinental Hotels 75th Diamond Anniversary- bringing to life the brands promise of creating worldly offerings rooted in local experiences. This year the hotel is also trying out a conscious New Year celebration uniquely crafted in each restaurant instead of a beach side gala-dinner, I would urge our patrons and guests to checkout our calendar offerings and make time to indulge with friends and families through luxurious stays or day-trips to InterContinental Chennai Mahabalipuram Resort”.
