Lucerne, May 09, 2020: Culinary Arts Academy Switzerland (CAAS), a member of Swiss Education Group (SEG), the largest private hospitality educator in Switzerland, will host its very first online culinary competition, Cook ‘N’ Battle. This competition aims to send a positive vibe to students who are unable to travel to Switzerland to further their education in culinary arts. Participants will be tested on their skills and encouraged to surpass their limits to achieve culinary excellence in this competition.
This unique competition is designed to engage with new students who are due to begin their studies at CAAS in July or October 2020. The objective of Cook ‘N’ Battle is to showcase the talent, creativity and diversity of future culinary arts leaders and entrepreneurs, and encouraging sustainability through the use of local ingredients. It is open to all students enrolled before 15th May (for July or October terms), and anyone over the age of 16 who are interested to pursue further studies in culinary arts in Switzerland.

To qualify for Cook ‘N’ Battle,, participants are invited to submit a five-minute video, introducing themselves and their culinary creation, per competition guidelines, between May 6th-24th 2020. All videos will be reviewed by a an internationally acclaimed jury panel and seven finalists will be selected to move on to the final round. Each finalist will be mentored by a CAAS Chef Instructor, before competing live in an online battle, from the comforts of their homes. “One of the biggest takeaways for finalists is to be mentored by our Chef Instructors. The participants will gain tremendous knowledge, learn from the best chef instructors, and receive personalised coaching,” shared Tanja Florenthal.
The finalist that scores the highest score according to an exhaustive list of criteria, ranging from technical skills, use of ingredients, to hygiene, sanitation and creativity, presentation and the value placed on local ingredients, will be declared winner of the virtual Cook ‘N’ Battle culinary competition 2020. The winner will be awarded a scholarship worth CHF 7,500.00 and will also be featured in an upcoming video. The first and second runner up will also receive scholarships.

- Anton Mosimann OBE – Swiss culinary icon (Jury President)
- Pooja Dhingra – ‘Macaron Queen’, Founder and CEO of Le 15 Patisserie in Mumbai and CRCS alumna
- Vladimir Mukhin – Co-owner and Head Chef of the renowned White Rabbit in Moscow, No.13 in The World’s 50 Best Restaurants (2019 listing)
- Franck Giovaninni – Head Chef of three Michelin-starred Restaurant De L’Hôtel De Ville Crissier, Switzerland)
- Matthew Downes – Corporate Chef at Mane (Vouvry, Switzerland) and Founder of Vegan Chef Consulting
The cooking battle will take place on Zoom and be live-streamed on the Culinary Arts Academy Switzerland Facebook page, 6th June 2020, at 2 pm (CEST).
