Over 250 hotel employees from the hospitality precinct participate in the run to champion gender equality
New Delhi, March 10, 2016: A global celebration of respect, appreciation and love, International Women’s Day on March 8th was created to honour the achievements of women. Marking the occasion, Hotel ibis Delhi Airport, in association with the Delhi Police, organised the first of its kind Aerocity Run at New Delhi Aerocity today. The Run witnessed participation from over 250 male and female employees from leading hotels located in India’s newest hospitality precinct, running for the cause of gender equality and women’s empowerment. All proceeds from the Aerocity Run were donated to Pardada Pardadi Educational Society, an Uttar Pradesh-based non-profit organisation dedicated to the academic, economic and social empowerment of girls and women from the underprivileged parts of the society.
Flagged off by Mr. D. K. Gupta – Deputy Commissioner of Police, Delhi, the 5K Aerocity Run kicked off at Aloft New Delhi Aerocity and culminated at Pullman New Delhi Aerocity. Running in solidarity with their female peers, over 150 men participated in the Run to create a bold, visible force for gender equality. The Aerocity Run was a concerted initiative of eleven hotels located in the hospitality precinct, including ibis, Hotel Novotel, Hotel Pullman, Andaz by Hyatt, Lemon Tree Premier, Red Fox Hotel, JW Marriott hotel, Dusit D2 and Worldmark.
Speaking at the event, Pierre-Etienne Demontgrand, General Manager, ibis Delhi Airport & Operations head, ibis India said, “Today’s run is a show of force towards our commitment to diversity, gender equality and for honouring the many women who are making a difference, excelling and encouraging other women to do so as well. We had a great turnout and with an incredible amount of energy. What better way of supporting a cause and getting a bit of exercise along the way. We look forward to hosting the run again and championing diversity all year round.
