Anup Kumar elevated as Director of Sales – Chennai, Karan Rahan appointed Deputy General Manager – Business Development
Chennai, July 24, 2020: CapitaLand’s wholly owned lodging business unit, The Ascott Limited (Ascott), has announced new appointments to help grow the company’s business in India.
Mr Anup Kumar has been promoted to Director of Sales – Chennai. Anup will be responsible for driving sales and distribution strategies for the 187-unit Somerset Greenways Chennai and the 269-unit Citadines OMR Chennai.
Anup has been with Ascott since 2012 and has been instrumental in implementing various initiatives to drive revenue and occupancy for Ascott’s properties in Chennai. With a career spanning over 15 years, Anup has worked with reputed brands in the hospitality and aviation sectors, like The Park Hotels and Lufthansa. He has been the winner of “Ascott’s Innovation Challenge” for the years 2015, 2016 and 2018, a global recognition awarded by Ascott for his innovative ideas and strategies implemented. Vie International Awards organised by Brand Avatar, has also awarded Anup “Brand Ambassador – Hospitality” for the year 2018 – 2019. He holds an MBA in Sales & Marketing, from the University of Madras.
Mr Karan Rahan has been appointed as Deputy General Manager – Business Development. Karan will be based in Gurugram and will responsible for identifying new opportunities to expand Ascott’s presence in India.
Karan started his career with Marriott International in Revenue Management as a management trainee and has progressed quickly through the ranks to hold leadership positions in various markets, including Market Director in Revenue Management for Kochi cluster. He has been part of the pre-opening team of hotels in four different cities in India and has conducted project feasibilities in various parts of the country. Karan has worked with reputed brands like Marriott International, HVS and Hotelivate. Karan holds a degree in Hotel Management from IHM – Aurangabad.
In India, Ascott owns and operates the 187-unit Somerset Greenways Chennai and 269-unit Citadines OMR Chennai. The international brand will extend its portfolio in India with Ascott Ireo City Gurugram, Citadines Paras Square Gurugram and Citadines Calangute Goa that are slated to open in 2021 while Citadines Candolim Goa will open in 2022. In total, Ascott has a portfolio of seven properties across four cities with more than 1,200 units, making it the leading international serviced residence owner- operator in the country.
