The name Khajuraho or Kharjuravāhaka, is derived from ancient Sanskrit, kharjura meaning date palm and vāhaka meaning “one who carries” or bearer. This place was once the cultural capital of Chandela Rajputs, a Hindu dynasty that ruled it from the 10th to the 12th century. The temples that adorn this sleepy town were built over a span of 200 years, from 950 – 1150. Originally, this place housed around 80 Hindu temples, now most of them lie in ruins barring 25 temples, that have managed survive the vagaries of time and nature.
This sleepy, little town of Khajuraho definitely needed a Zostel for backpackers to relax and unwind with fellow travellers over a cup of simmering hot coffee and varied tales from around the world. A comfy dormitory, a common room buzzing with excitement, quiet reading spaces and a beautiful terrace to relax- Zostel has it all!
