Sydney, 11 Mar, 2015:
Mantra Group, a leading Australian-based hotel and resort marketer and operator, today announces it has selected SiteMinder to power the online distribution of its entire group located throughout the Asia Pacific.

The move will see SiteMinder integrate Mantra Group’s central reservation system (CRS), SIHOT, with more than 250 of the world’s leading distribution channels to power the Group’s MAX Distribution Hub.

Luke Moran, Group Director of Revenue & Distribution at Mantra Group, says today’s announcement is the result of a long tender process that identified SiteMinder as the clear market leader in online distribution solutions for the hotel industry.

“When Mantra Group began the selection process, we weren’t just looking for a channel manager; we were looking for a distribution solution partner. From a technical perspective, it was important to find a partner that offered scalable technology which could integrate seamlessly with our CRS, but, as a leading and publicly-listed hotel management company, it was equally important for us to find a partner who understood where our strategic focus was as a business,” says Mr Moran.

“SiteMinder’s dominant presence within, and knowledge of, the Asia Pacific region made them the ideal choice. With SiteMinder, we have the opportunity to grow effectively in new markets – not only through traditional OTAs but through wholesalers, meta search sites and GDS partnerships, which SiteMinder gives direct exposure to.”

Mantra Group manages more than 116 hotel properties with in excess of 11,000 rooms across Australia, New Zealand and South East-Asia. Providing a total of 2.3 million room nights for guests each year, its property portfolio ranges from luxury retreats and coastal resorts to serviced apartments in central business district and key leisure destinations, under its three key brands: Peppers, Mantra and BreakFree.

SiteMinder’s Director of Sales – Pacific, Michael Kinloch, says Mantra Group was one of the last few hotel groups within the Asia Pacific region that were yet to adopt SiteMinder’s cloud platform for hotels.

“SiteMinder recognised that Mantra Group was not simply a 3, 4 or 5-star hotel chain; Mantra Group represents a full, highly-complex range of accommodation, with its various property classes that demand a complete and robust online distribution solution. Our established history within the Asia Pacific meant that the Group could have confidence in selecting us as a trusted partner to meet their business needs, and we are thrilled our technology can now help them to drive down their cost of guest acquisition while increasing their online revenue and profits.”CCI Newswire

Los Angeles, Feb 27, 2015: Mövenpick Hotel Egerkingen, located in greenery, sits on a rise with fabulous panoramic views over the Swiss Central Plateau and Alps. Picturesque countryside and magnificent mountain vistas surround the 4-star hotel with the cities of Basel, Bern, Lucerne and Zurich located nearby.

Mövenpick Hotel Egerkingen recently received Green Globe certification marking its fourth consecutive year of sustainable management and operations and achieved an outstanding compliance score of 98%.

Ute Dirks, General Manager Mövenpick Hotel Egerkingen said, “We are very proud to receive this valuable Green Globe Certification for the fourth time. Our hotel is located in an environmentally protected area and therefore, we are keen on preserving the resources given to us by nature.”

The hotel follows best practices in managing its energy consumption. Mövenpick Hotel Egerkingen is developing a target agreement to increase its energy-efficiency with the Swiss Federal Government, outdoor parking has been rebuilt and lighting replaced with LED's, hotel windows mounted with triple glazing to improve insulation and light tubes replaced with more efficient lighting systems in meeting rooms.

Energy, water and waste usage are monitored regularly to ensure benchmarks are met and the hotel’s impact on the environment is minimalized. Also, black and grey water is disposed of in a non-polluting way so that natural water resources are not contaminated with toxic or hazardous products.

The reduction of carbon emissions is another focal point of Mövenpick Hotel Egerkingen’s environmental policy with long-term plans already in place.

“We are very happy to provide 8 supercharger filling stations for electric cars, free of charge, that have been in operation since August 2014. This is an important investment in the future and saves CO2 emissions,” added Ute Dirks.

The environmental protection of neighboring alpine areas, such as the mountains of Eiger, Mönch and Jungfrau near Interlaken, is another key objective in the hotel’s overall sustainable management plan. The hotel supports local organizations - Kora and Wildlife Switzerland - in their projects and research endeavors that encourage biodiversity and the co-existence of man and native alpine animals and birds including lynx, bears and Bearded Vultures.

To preserve local flora and fragile eco-systems, hotel associates also participate in activities through the Society for Nature Conservation Egerkingen. The volunteers assist with clearing rugged terrain in protected forest areas and helping with the care of a variety of native and international species of orchids in Orchid “Föhrenwald”.

Room tariffs soar by up to 100%

Bengaluru, February 2015

After weathering a lean period in December-January, when room occupancy typically dips due to holidays and furloughs, hoteliers in Bengaluru are cashing in on room sales for an entire week in February.

During February the city plays host to the biennial Aero India Show 2015, at Air Force Station Yelahanka.

Cashing in on the spike in demand for rooms by companies participating in the show, hotels in the vicinity of Yelahanka have doubled room rates, while those in the central business district (CBD) have increased rates by up to 50 per cent for that period.

“We are doubling room tariffs in Royal Orchid Resort and Convention Centre, located in Yelahanka, for the entire Aero Show week, and by 25 per cent in Royal Orchid Central, located in the CBD,” CK Baljee, Chairman and Managing Director of Royal Orchid & Regenta Hotels, told BusinessLine.

While all the 50 rooms of the Yelahanka hotel are fully booked at Rs.15,000 plus taxes, 50 per cent of the 130 rooms in the chain’s CBD hotel are already booked at 25 per cent higher rates.

Abhimanyu Kayastha, General Manager of Howard Johnson, located at Hebbal, close to the Air Show venue, said 70 per cent of the hotel’s 117 rooms have been blocked for the event at Rs.12,500 plus taxes, which is double the original room tariff.

“Till now, we were offering introductory prices of Rs.4,500-5,500 for our rooms as we are very new to the market. The deals struck by companies during the Air Show run into thousands of crores of rupees; our doubled room rates will hardly make a dent in their wallets,” said Kayastha.

The Lalit Ashok, located at the CBD, is sold out at 50 per cent higher room rates for the Aero India week. “We have retained just 7 rooms for our regular guests,” said hotel manager Bhaskaran T.

Other hotels that are further away are enjoying spill-over demand. Twenty per cent of the rooms at 12{+t}{+h} Avenue, a suite hotel located close to the CBD, are booked and others such as Octave Hotel & Spa will increase rates by up to 50 per cent.

“Since Bengaluru has an oversupply of rooms, our rooms sell at discounted rates. During events such as the Air Show, when demand spikes, we stop offering discounts and revise rates based on demand,” said Siddharth Goenka, Managing Director, Octave Hotel & Spa.

Increasing rates is a common practice globally and is referred to as revenue/yield management, said Achin Khanna, Managing Director, Consulting & Valuation – South Asia of global hospitality services firm HVS.

“Increasing room tariffs appropriate to the market when demand exceeds supply is an acceptable practice globally and I am happy that Bengaluru hotels are following it. However, fleecing customers is unacceptable. For instance, hotels in Goa sell rooms that cost Rs.8,000 at Rs.15,000 during the Christmas and New Year season, which is acceptable but, if they raise it to Rs.20,000-30,000 that is unacceptable” he said.
