Reports a 33% jump in Q4 net profit

Kolkata, May 01, 2015:

EIH Ltd is looking to make operational three hotels in the first six months of next year (calendar year 2016).

The three hotels set to be operational are The Oberoi Al Zorah at the United Arab Emirates (UAE), The Oberoi, Marrakech in Morocco and The Oberoi Sukhvilas at Chandigarh.

According to Vikram Oberoi, Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer, EIH Ltd, “The Oberoi Al Zorah” in UAE is currently under construction. Apart from the hotel, it will also have a luxury residential and retail development and an 18-hole golf course.

“The hotel will be managed by a wholly owned overseas subsidiary of the company and is expected to open in the second quarter of 2016,” he was quoted in a release issued by the company.

Profit up 33% in Q4

Meanwhile, EIH reported a near 33 per cent jump in net profit (standalone) to Rs. 48 crore for the quarter ending March 31, 2015, against Rs. 36 crore in the corresponding period last year.

During the period, its income from operations increased by 9 per cent to Rs. 393 crore – up from the Rs. 360 crore it reported in the year-ago-period.

Kochi, May 29, 2015

Majas Travels, Tours and Logistics will launch Majastique-1, a floating restaurant, here on May 30. The air-conditioned, 9000 sq ft, two-storey boat is one of the largest of its kind, said Sajan Mathew, Managing Director, Majas. The Rs.4.5-crore boat has dedicated areas for partying, business conferences and a restaurant with 400 seats. It will cruise the backwaters during the day, carrying up to 145 people, and will serve as a floating restaurant after sunset.

Following the rave reviews of its world-first underwater nightclub, Subsix, PER AQUUM has evolved the pioneering venue into an underwater playground, a creative space which can be transformed into whatever guests imagine it to be – from private Champagne breakfasts to lunchtime celebrations to midnight proposals. Located at PER AQUUM Niyama in the Maldives, Subsix first opened in 2012. The recent redesign by Poole Associates draws inspiration from the aquatic surroundings and sets a very surreal stage for guests to dive beneath the surface and explore their desires.

Guests reach Subsix via speedboat, skipping over the reef to its 500-metre offshore location. Upon arrival, the underwater revelers descend a dramatic three-tier staircase. Overhead, Italian-designed abstract chandeliers illuminate the descent like shining coral or white stars sparkling through the sea’s surface. Brancusi cabinetry and mirrors line the path.

In the depths of Subsix, the soft anemone fingers of bespoke chairs invite with their deliciously bizarre textured design. Above, thousands of strands of capiz shells drape from the entire expanse of the ceiling in a luxe ode to an undersea kelp forest. Piercing the shells’ undulating waves, a garden of coral-like chandeliers spike their gleaming branches over wedding brunches and late-night celebrations. Silver-panelled columns throughout the venue draw their inspiration from the ribbed gills of manta rays.

In the centre of the room, a huge clam-inspired bar strikes an imposing form, its fibreglass shell glowing with Subsix’s mood lighting that shifts throughout the day from pure white mornings to a lavender dinner setting to late-night blues.

In addition to the seating in the clam’s swooping curves, tables and chairs dot the space, with the most coveted seats by the floor-to-ceiling glass windows. Over 90 coral reef species ply the waters, the dense marine life being attracted by the specially designed reef structures that integrate into the natural reef and enrich the habitat with surfaces for coral and hiding spots for the more reclusive denizens.

Parrotfish swim past shoals of Moorish Idols. Moray eels slide through the lagoon. Groupers make goliath appearances amidst the rainbow of butterflyfish and damselfish, while the resident Hawksbill turtle makes occasional visits at the cleaning station for a nibbled spa treatment by the small cleaning fish.

Among the many activities hosted by Subsix, marine biologist-led immersions into aquatic life give guests an expert’s insight into the rich environment and its secrets. Other highlighted activities in the restyled venue include subaquatic lunches, gourmet dinners, weddings, hosted events, wine tastings, a weekly Glow Party and DJ nights carrying on the tradition of its birth as a pioneer-of-the-deep club.

FTAs during January-April, 2015 grow by 2.7% over FTAs during January-April, 2014

New Delhi, May 09, 2015: Ministry of Tourism compiles monthly estimates of Foreign Tourist Arrivals (FTAs) on the basis of Nationality-wise, Port-wise data received from Bureau of Immigration (BOI) and Foreign Exchange Earnings (FEEs) from tourism on the basis of data available from Reserve Bank of India. The following are the important highlights regarding FTAs and FEEs from tourism during the month of April 2015.

Foreign Tourist Arrivals (FTAs):

• FTAs during the Month of April 2015 were 5.40 lakh as compared to FTAs of 5.37 lakh during the month of April 2014 and 4.51 lakh in April 2013. There has been a growth of 0.5% in April 2015 over April 2014.

• FTAs during the period January- April 2015 were 28.21 lakh with a growth of 2.7%, as compared to the FTAs of 27.47 lakh in January- April 2014.

• The Percentage share of Foreign Tourist Arrivals (FTAs) in India during April 2015 among the top 15 source countries was highest from Bangladesh (15.66%), followed by USA (12.55%), UK (10.32%) Sri Lanka (3.99%), Malaysia (3.27%), Australia (3.14%), France (2.95%), Germany (2.95%), Japan (2.91%), China (2.88%), Canada (2.72%), Singapore (1.89%) Pakistan (1.83%), Nepal (1.82%) and Russian Fed. (1.75%) . These top 15 countries account for 70.63% of total FTAs during April 2015.

• The Percentage share of Foreign Tourist Arrivals (FTAs) in India during April 2015 among the top 15 ports was highest at Delhi Airport (30.35%) followed by Mumbai Airport (17.79%), Haridaspur Land check post (8.71%), Chennai Airport (8.50%), Bengaluru Airport (6.50%), Kolkata Airport (3.86%),Cochin Airport (3.76%), Hyderabad Airport (2.89%), Gede Rail (1.90%), Goa Airport (1.72%), Trivandrum Airport (1.69%), Ahmedabad Airport (1.44%), Tiruchirapalli Airport (1.32%), Ghojadanga Airport (1.21%) and Attari Wagha (1.15%). These top 15 ports account for 92.79% of total FTAs during April 2015.

Foreign Exchange Earnings (FEEs) from Tourism in India in rupee terms and in US$ terms

• FEEs during the month of April 2015 were Rs. 9,438 crore as compared to Rs. 8,645 crore in April 2014.

• The growth rate in FEEs in rupee terms during April 2015 over April 2014 was 9.2%.

• FEEs from tourism in rupee terms in January- April 2015 were Rs. 42,474 crore with a growth of 3.3% as compared to the FEE of Rs. 41,118 crore during January- April 2014.

• FEEs in US$ terms during the month of April 2015 were US$ 1.505 billion as compared to FEEs of US$ 1.431 billion during the month of April 2014.

• The growth rate in FEEs in US$ terms in April 2015 over April 2014 was 5.2%.

• FEEs from tourism in US$ terms during January- April 2015 were US$ 6.815 billion with a growth of 2.0% as compared to the US$ 6.684 billion with a decline of 4.2% during January- April 2014 over January- April 2013.

Hyatt Hotels and Resorts has opened Hyatt Regency, Ahmedabad, the second Hyatt property in the city and the first Hyatt Regency hotel in Gujarat.

Located within walking distance of the Sabarmati riverfront, the hotel has 210 rooms, including 19 suites.

"The opening of Hyatt Regency Ahmedabad in one of India’s most business-oriented cities reinforces our focus on India as a key market for development,” said Kurt Straub, Vice-President of Operations, India, for Hyatt.

“India is an important region to our guests, and we have plans to continue growing representation of our brands here," he added.

The hotel also offers the ‘hotel within a hotel’ concept at Hyatt Regency Ahmedabad, where the Regency Club has been set up on the 10th floor of the hotel.

With the expected growth in Meetings, Incentives, Conferences and Exhibitions (M.I.C.E.) demand in India, Hyatt Regency Ahmedabad will offer more than 14,000 square feet (1,360 square meters) of meeting and event space, making it one of the largest hotel meetings and events facilities located in a five-star hotel in Ahmedabad, an official statement said.

Hyatt Regency Ahmedabad will offer a special opening rate of Rs. 5,555 for a limited period from April 11, 2015. During this time, guests can enjoy dining at Tinello or the Chai Shop and utilise the Fitness Centre and pool. All other hotel facilities (including the events space) are expected to open shortly, the statement added.

ITC Ltd on Friday launched its first all-suites luxury property ‘ITC Grand Bharat, Gurgaon-NCR’, the company said in a statement.

The hotel, comprising 100 suites and 4 presidential villas, is spread across a 1.2 sq. km and has 27-hole Jack Nicklaus signature golf course, elaborate culinary experiences, conferencing facilities and extensive spa, recreation and wellness services.

Nakul Anand, Executive Director, ITC Ltd said, “The retreat marks ITC’s hotel group’s entry in the luxury leisure segment with a mosaic of luxury experiences that celebrate the glory of India.”
