Eco-friendly winter wonderland to open this December

New Delhi, November 28, 2017: Jumeirah Vittaveli brings a new first to the Maldives this festive season with the opening of the destination’s first ice rink. The rink allows guests to be carried away into a small winter wonderland of their own, while being enveloped by the warmth of the tropics.

An experience unlike any other, guests can take a dip in the warm waters of the Indian Ocean, then step off the white sandy beaches and into a pair of skates to glide over the resort’s glistening ice skating rink. Launching shortly before Christmas, the ice rink adds a little more magic to this already enchanting season.

General Manager Amit Majumder comments: “The ice rink is a perfect expression of our goal to always wow guests. We have many guests who keep coming back to us and I often hear that one of the reasons for their returns is that they love to be surprised by our updates and developments each time they come. Apart from the ice rink, we have some exciting changes in our rooms and dining outlets upcoming, which we will announce in the near future.”

In its quest to constantly surprise guests, the resort management has found a way to transport winter cheer into a tropical climate while still adhering to their core sustainability beliefs as a Green Globe certified property. The ice rink has been built in partnership with Glice®, a company that manufactures artificial ice plates. Glice® offers ice skating indoor and outdoor anytime and in any climate conditions. Contrary to a conventional ice skating rink, a complex molecular technology makes Glice® synthetic ice rinks function entirely without water and at a zero-energy level.

Jumeirah Vittaveli ’s festive season will be celebrated with a carnival around the globe theme this year. Guests will enjoy lavish gala dinners at Samsara Beach, live bands and dance troupes, Santa Claus will visit on Christmas Day, and December 31 will see a vibrant New Year’s party including DJ, fire dance, and fireworks.

New Delhi, November 27, 2017: Christmas is that time of the year where the air is filled with love and magic. While Christmas is becoming increasingly commercial in many countries, Switzerland has managed to stay loyal to its tradition. The Swiss Christmas typically lasts from the beginning of Advent (Sunday 3 rd December 2017) to the end of Epiphany (6 January 2018). Several Christmas Markets are seen during this period in Switzerland which makes this festive season even more delightful for visitors who come from different parts of the world.

Christmas Markets are scattered throughout Switzerland in almost every town and village and offer a wide variety of arts and craft. They include decorations for the Christmas tree, candles, glass, porcelain, ceramics, and earthenware, Advent wreaths, wooden toys, and crib figures. Let’s check out the top 5 famous Christmas Markets to indulge in this winter:

1) Montreux

Montreux has a complete fairy-tale ambience and is one of the most beautiful Christmas Markets. Situated on Lake Geneva, this town is nestled between steep hills and the lakeside and had a magnificent view of the snow-capped Alps. More than half a million visitors flock there each year and for its wide variety of Christmas souvenirs and delicacies. The main attraction for children is the Santa’s House which can be visited on Rochers-de-Naye – a special cog-wheel train that goes from Montreux to the top of the Alpine peak overlooking Lac Léman.

2) Basel

Basel is proud to be known as the largest and most beautiful ‘Christmas City’ in Switzerland. Buildings and bridges are magically lit up during this festive period and numerous pine trees are decorated on Europe's longest 'Christmas Street'. The two main Christmas markets in Basel can be found in Barfüsserplatz and Münsterplatz, right in the centre of the city. Over 180 traders and artisans offer their goods for sale in small, rustic wooden chalets along with an array of delicious snacks such as waffles and sausages and off course a warm glass of mulled wine to enjoy this festive atmosphere. Basel also offers a variety of interesting events during this festive period including Salvation Army concerts, a Christmas exhibition at the Toy Museum, a special performance at the Puppet Theatre, and a musical Advent door opened each day the Basel Theatre.

3) Zürich

Come December, Switzerland’s largest city - Zürich transforms from a financial hub into an enchanting winter wonderland filled with lights and music. Zürich plays host to quite a few Christmas markets every year like the Christmas market in the Old Town, the one by the Zürich Opera House, the Romantic Rappers will market and the Einsiedeln markets. But the one that attracts visitors the most is the Christmas Market from the main train station for the fact that it is one of the largest indoor Christmas markets in Europe. The pride and joy of this Christmas market is the massive Christmas tree which is adorned with more than 7,000 Swarovski crystal ornaments.

4) Lucerne

The Lucerne Christmas Market is a charming affair with a canopy of twinkling Christmas stars and the fragrance of gingerbread, toffees, spices, punch and mulled wine. Every year several talented craftsmen, performers and chefs do a great job by entertaining and feeding visitors from around the world. A dozen of Christmas stalls offer all types of handmade Christmas gifts right from traditional wooden toys and nativity scenes, to cosy knitted hats and scarves and also unique jewellery to delightful candles. To make this an even more festive ambience, a huge advent wreath is placed across the fountain which serves as a striking centrepiece, with hundreds of pretty lights and candles.

Hyderabad, November 27, 2017: Taj Falaknuma, the palace hotel where Modi will be hosting a dinner for United States President Donald Trump’s daughter and advisor Ivanka Trump and other delegates on November 28.

She will not only having a dinner at Nizam’s famous ‘101 Dining Hall’, the world’s largest dining hall but also get the opportunity to see the magnificent palace, a symbol of India’s long Muslim rule and culture according to siasat.com.

Once the residence of Mir Mahboob Ali Khan (1869-1911), the sixth Nizam, the palace had been lying unused since 1911.

It was Nawab Vaqar-ul-Umra, the Nizam’s prime minister, who built the palace in 1893. Impressed by its magnificence, the Nizam bought it for himself.

The interiors of the scorpion-shaped Falaknuma Palace are a statement in royal opulence, replete in its large Venetian chandeliers, rare furniture, grand marble staircases, priceless statues and objects d’art and murals encased in ornate frames along with a Palace Library, which is a collector’s envy and home to rare manuscripts and an acclaimed collections of books.

As per the reports published in siasat.com V V Srinivasa Rao, Commissioner of Police Hyderabad informed, “Ms Trump would be arriving on the early hours of 28th (Tuesday)… Ms Trump and honourable Prime Minister will be dining with selected 100 guests. There will be another dinner in another other place, the lawns on the lower level of Falaknuma Palace, which can take about 2,000 guests.”

Falaknuma is located in the old city of Hyderabad, about 30 km from HICC and surrounded by densely populated neighbourhoods and narrow roads. The area is virtually under the control of the police and security agencies working to ensure fool-proof security.

“2000 police personals will be dedicatedly deployed for this event. They will be working on it. All city forces will also be focusing on these Golconda and Falaknuma events,” said Srinivasa.

Siasat.com further added that the state government is spending Rs 8 crore on organising the summit, dinner and transport arrangements. This does not include the money being spent by GHMC for beautification around the venue, Falaknuma, Golconda and also near the star hotels where the delegates will be staying.
