“Neighbour’s Envy, Owner’s Pride” truly reflects the statement made by the Indana Palace, Jodhpur built by the famed Gundecha Group, established in 1966, who is well-known in the Indian real estate sector.

Jodhpur, August 23, 2014 - “Neighbour’s Envy, Owner’s Pride” truly reflects the statement made by the Indana Palace, Jodhpur built by the famed Gundecha Group, established in 1966, who is well-known in the Indian real estate sector. Today, the ISO 9001:2000 company with a strong financial background stands proudly as one of the largest housing builders in India. The company has been steadily redefining Mumbai City’s skyline over the years with more than 100 residential, commercial and industrial projects to its credit.
Gundecha’s diversification into Hospitality started with a chain of five-star hotels launched under the banner of Indana Hotels and Resorts. Its flagship hotel, the Indana Palace Jodhpur, commenced operation in November 2012. With its façade and interiors inspired by the traditional architecture of Rajasthan, the hotel—replete with carved furniture, hand-painted walls, marble flooring and jali work—is

reminiscent of the glorious era of maharajas and maharanis. Staying at Indana is staying in a fusion of world comprised of 80 elegantly appointed rooms and 8 suites. Equipped with all the comforts that one can expect from a seven-star hotel—Jacuzzis, swimming pools, spas, shopping arcades and much more—the Indana Palace is a fine blend of luxury and tradition. The massive 1,24,000 sq.ft. hotel was built at a cost of Rs.60 crores. H.S. Pakhar, Managing Director & Principal Architect and Kunal Pakhar, Director & Design Architect of architect firm, Designers, founded in 1985 designed the acclaimed hotel. The basic idea was to reflect the essence of Marwar in the architecture of the building and create an astonishing structure thus making it look like a heritage hotel.

The minute details taken from 16th Century Rajasthani architecture included, carved chajjas and the carved mouldings around the building. The intricately carved bracket details brought a finnese to the entire design. The massively carved and designed dome resting separately from the building creates its own sense of power and stability. The intricate carved jharokhas taken from the rajasthani architecture present an all together a scenic beauty to the building, it houses the sitout areas and the window openings. The elemental arches enhance the beauty of the openings on the building thus completing its very presence. The chattries of the rajasthani architecture were basic design elements to bring a stability to the aesthetics of the building, this one element made the structure look more exquisite and lavishly balanced. Arts and crafts of the region dot the rooms, while paintings done by a Jaipur based artist adorn the walls. These paintings depict the lifestyle of the royals of that era, along with their collections of paintings of vintage automobiles and aircrafts. Traditional phad painting is also extensively used. These paintings are done with natural dyes on cotton looms. For these specials artisans were employed and large works of arts were commissioned. Extensive use of tikri glass and mirror mosaic along with stained glass work is also seen in the hotel premises.

The guest rooms flaunt traditional Rajasthani design elements and aesthetics, even as they come equipped with modern amenities and facilities, making the accommodation a perfect mix of heritage and modern luxury. Four poster beds, free standing bathtubs, gold polished bath ware, rich drapes and tapestry and period-looking furniture gave the rooms opulence associated with royalty. The interiors have been decorated with a mixed use of materials like–Green Baroda Marble, Green Marble, White Marble, Yellow Jaisalmer; and Italian Marble–Travantino, Bottocinno, Lavante & Red Eleganta. Wooden flooring and carpets were used alongside at some places in combination with other marbles or tiles.

The challenges in building the palace hotel was to recreate the prolific 16th century–enhancing townscape & lifting the overall quality of the built environment. The goal was to retain the architectural integrity of the hotel in Rajasthan, with introduction of significant use of new and compatible technologies so as to make it eco-friendly and create a state of an art in the very location. Jodhpur being known as the ‘Sun City’ for its bright sunny weather and extreme temperatures, gave the challenge for creating a harmonious environment. Another challenge was to ensure maximum comfort and suppress the noise that comes from takeoff and landing of aircrafts at the airport nearby, the architects have used double layered glass windows and double layered insulated walls that not just keep the sound but also help maintain balanced temperature within the rooms. The most distinctive and challenging design feature of the hotel is the entrance dome of the building, which greets every guest with its gigantic and subtle appearance. The dome being the main feature of the whole building was elementally designed to give a feeling of security and stability to the entrance thus it is a sight of wonder and admiration.

“At Indana Palace Jodhpur, we want to provide a perfect blend of modern comfort and old palatial charisma that serves the needs of the contemporary business and leisure traveller,” says Poonam Gundecha, Director of Gundecha Group commenting on the hotel’s attraction to be the venue for business conferences and seminars.

Banking on Rajasthan’s increasing popularity as one of the most sought after wedding destinations, the hotel also boasts of lush, resplendent lawns and capacious banquets. For weddings, Indana Palace offers a splendid 10,000 sq.ft banquet hall which resembles a palace ballroom and creates a rich ambience in which to welcome the wedding party. The hall opens out onto 40,000 sq.ft of beautifully manicured lawn to entertain the most lavish guest list.

The palace hotel’s signature ‘Desert Experience’ guided trip helps you feel the raw rural Rajasthan in its full glory. Through the semi arid terrain you will witness the simple life of different communities that have lived in harmony with nature for centuries. The variety of wild life and avian life makes for a photographer’s paradise. Added to this rich cultural experience is the thrill, excitement and adrenaline rush of off-road driving as you tackle this terrain in 4x4 vehicles through sandy river beds, and sharp twists and turns. En route, you will be informed about different cultures and their history, about traditions and customs.

Marwar Hall & Mewar Hall: An expansive party hall further divides the two venues into 1462 sq.ft Marwar Hall and the 952 sq.ft Mewar Hall-making them ideal for large formal meetings, semi-formal get-together, cocktail receptions and per-function gatherings. Spurred by the positive response garnered by the Indana Palace, Jodhpur, the Gundecha Group is now in the process of setting up similar hotels at several other locations including Jaipur, Udaipur, Nagpur, Mumbai, and also plans to venture south to Kerala. Well, once Indana Hotels and Resorts manage to make their presence felt all over India and even internationally, it will surely be the Pride of India.
