The Working Group on Tourism for the 12th Five Year Plan, set up by the Planning Commission, has recommended a target growth in Domestic Tourism of about 12 per cent per annum during the Plan period. The Working Group has also recommended to increase India's share of international tourist arrivals to at least one per cent by end of the Plan period, requiring an annual growth of about 12 per cent, said Dr K Chiranjeevi, Minister of State with Independent Charge for Tourism, Government of India, in a written reply in Lok Sabha this week.

The Foreign Tourist Arrivals (FTAs) in India grew from 5.17 million in 2007–08 to 6.50 million (provisional) in 2011–12 at a Compound Annual Growth Rate (CAGR) of 5.88 per cent, during the 11th Five Year Plan. The Foreign Exchange Earnings (FEEs) from tourism in India grew from 45,524 crore in 2007-08 to 83,607 crore (provisional) in 2011–12 at a CAGR of 16.41 per cent, during the 11th Five Year Plan.
